This is an Association-leading volunteer position, ideal for those interested in determining and advancing strategic directions, governing over long-term goals, representing the association to other members, and setting the tone for member experiences.

The Student Programs Team chair leads a team of volunteers to incorporate student engagement and development principles into all ACUI sanctioned student programs. This position strengthens planning and member engagement skills by coordinating efforts related to I-LEAD, Poetry Slam, and student competitions.
 

Serving on the ACUI Leadership Team, overseeing the Student Programs Team, and being supported by the educational program manager staff liaison, for a two-year term, this volunteer is responsible for:

  • Leading the strategic development of all ACUI student programs, ensuring that volunteers consider all elements of student development in their programs.
  • Educating professional, student, faculty, and associate members about ACUI student programs, including but not limited to regional and annual conference opportunities, regional and international recreation and leisure activities, educational programs and leadership training opportunities, service learning, and other programs.
  • Facilitating the establishment of consistent standards and procedures for participation in ACUI student programs.
  • Aligning student programs to further the mission and strategic plan of the Association.
  • Guiding the student program learning outcome development in conjunction with program directors in an effort to educate students and expose them to other ACUI programs.
  • Supervising the Student Programs Team volunteers, including the recruitment and selection of team members, facilitating regular communication and meetings, and coordinating team member assignments.
  • Representing the Student Programs Team to other component groups of the ACUI Leadership Team.
  • Attending scheduled Association meetings as required including, but not limited to all Annual Conferences and all Leadership Team meetings throughout the term of office.

Qualifications

At the time of application, individuals must have: full-time employment at a higher education institution; institutional membership; a signed institutional support form; and a commitment to fulfilling the duties of the position for the length of the term. Applicants must also demonstrate an understanding of ACUI’s vision, core values, and core competencies, as well as the knowledge and skills necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. 

Time Commitment

Association-leading volunteer positions require a commitment of two or more years, except for student positions which have a one-year term. During the course of the term, volunteers should anticipate at least four hours of conference call and project work per month, in addition to attending in-person ACUI Leadership Team meetings.
