This is an Association-leading volunteer position, ideal for those interested in determining and advancing strategic directions, governing over long-term goals, representing the association to other members, and setting the tone for member experiences.

The 2022 Conference Program Team chair leads the planning and execution of the conference program for the 2022 Annual Conference in Chicago. Volunteers in this role practice strong communication, strategic program development, and collaboration skills to provide meaningful experiences and professional development opportunities at ACUI's largest gathering.

Serving on the ACUI Leadership Team, overseeing a Conference Program Team, and being supported by the director of education staff liaison, for a two-year term, Conference Program Team chairs are responsible for:

  • Recruiting and selecting a diverse committee to assist in the development of the Association's annual conference.
  • Leading the committee in the execution of the plans for the conference.
  • Developing and implementing the overall direction of the conference educational program, including the selection of keynote speakers, sessions, presenters, and other conference enhancements.
  • Reviewing past conference programs and program budgets as a basis for development of the 2022 conference program and budget.
  • Partnering with Central Office staff on the production of the conference budget, planning timeline, event schedule, promotional plan, and overall conference management.
  • Managing the Conference Program Team budget.
  • Consulting and cooperating with the host city volunteer(s), Central Office staff members, association partners, component groups, or Conference Program Team to develop preconference education, tours, local arrangements, etc.
  • Preparing communications to be sent regularly to the Board of Trustees, regional directors, communities of practice, Education and Research Fund, and other components concerning the development of the conference program.
  • Working collaboratively with the Education Council members to develop the conference educational content to ensure a balanced offering for Association members.
  • Maintaining effective communication regarding sponsorship and other opportunities for corporate partners to ensure that sponsors are integrated into the educational offerings of the annual conference.
  • Advancing the vision of the Association related to diversity and inclusion.
  • Leading the assessment of conference, potential post-conference proceedings, and other conference reports to the membership and leadership of the Association.
  • Attending scheduled Association meetings as required including, but not limited to: the Annual Conferences for 2020, 2021, and 2022; the Leadership Team meetings for 2020 and 2021; and any others scheduled until the conclusion of the 2022 Annual Conference.
  • Scheduling and hosting regular communication and meetings with the Conference Program Team and Central Office liaison, including, but not limited to: regular conference calls/online meetings and in-person meetings—one in 2020 and one in 2021.

Applicants must also demonstrate an understanding of ACUI’s vision, core values, and core competencies, as well as the knowledge and skills necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. 

Time Commitment

Association-leading volunteer positions require a commitment of two or more years, except for student positions which have a one-year term. During the course of the term, volunteers should anticipate at least four hours of conference call and project work per month, in addition to attending in-person ACUI Leadership Team meetings.
