Taylor Miller is a Digital Marketing Assistant University of Wisconsin–Whitewater. Miller is  studying broadcast journalism and marketing.

Who comes up with the ideas for the projects you work on?

When it comes to thinking of ideas for projects, I work a lot with my co-workers who are marketing students. We bounce ideas off each other for promotional videos whenever we notice an event coming up. We try to create a video that would catch the target audience’s attention and bring in a greater audience to the event. Our work environment is very collaborative; once they give me an idea for a promotional video, I can bring it to reality. 

What are some of the regular challenges you face when working on different projects?

Finding people to participate in the videos! All the departments in the student union are willing to help on a video, but sometimes it is hard to schedule a time to record. Since most of us are students, our schedules don’t always line up for being at work during the same shift. If a time doesn’t work out for a specific student that I need in a video, I put in extra hours and go into work when they are available. 

How did you get interested in this work? 

I sparked an interest with videography when I was a senior in high school. When I came to the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater I knew I wanted to improve my production skills by finding a job on campus that pertains to videography. I started working in the student union as a freshman and now, looking back at my projects as a senior, I can see improvement. I do promotional videos for events in our student union and they get posted on all of our social media platforms. Every day that I am at work I’m working on a new project for clients in different departments in the union. 

If this kind of work was your career choice, what would be your dream job? 

If videography was my career choice, my dream job would be to produce either a Hallmark movie or work with Chip and Joanna on HGTV. I think it would be really cool to do a Hallmark movie because they get to travel to different locations for some of their movies and seeing something that I was a part of on TV would be pretty cool. I also think that working with Chip and Joanna Gaines on TV would be fun because of their personality and seeing a house that doesn’t look too great in the beginning be flipped into a house that many people would pay anything for.
