Manny Cunard passed away March 28, 2018. Cunard served as ACUI president from 1992–93 and chaired the 1984 Annual Conference in St. Louis, the Committee on Educational Programs and Services, and the Development Fund Advisory Committee.

Following an increase in violence on college campuses in late 2015, the ACUI Board of Trustees created the Campus Shooting Dialogue Planning Team, a task force to examine action-based efforts that union and activities professionals could take on their own campuses to better understand campus shootings and how to prepare for them.

In December, ACUI Benchmarking was launched, a new tool that allows users to enter data, view key performance indicators, and download comparative, presentation-ready reports. The tool was built in cooperation with Dynamic Benchmarking and will offer members the valuable data they need.

All of ACUI’s regions offer a variety of ways to recognize and provide opportunities to members through awards and scholarships. In 2017, a total of 65 regional awards and scholarships were presented, with $20,819 being offered in funding to support student and professional development.

Digital badging is a type of micro-credentialing that allows people to demonstrate their competence in a skill set. These can be informal, such as the badges gamers earn for reaching certain levels of a game or the badges earned on fitness tracking apps for achieving a certain number of steps in a day.

It has come to the attention of the Board of Trustees that as an undergraduate Porter Butts may have been a member of a student organization affiliated with the Ku Klux Klan. There is no place for racism in our association. To examine this issue, a working group is being created to look at the naming of ACUI awards and honors.
