Financial Assistance Fund Will Support Members During Pandemic

The coronavirus pandemic brought a halt to on-campus life as courses transitioned to online formats, physical distancing protocols were put into place, and home became the workplace for most. As a resilient profession, college union and student activities staff embraced the change and immediately began to focus on how to provide engagement virtually, ensuring students felt connected and supported while away from campus. And now, many professionals prepare to face another obstacle as the financial impact of the pandemic becomes more clear and institutions are forced to make difficult budget decisions.

To provide assistance to members and ensure continued access to the networking and professional development needed, especially at this critical time in the world, ACUI has created the Financial Assistance Fund. Through this fund, grants of up to $1,000 may be requested to cover expenses such as institutional membership or registration fees for ACUI events, including online courses, seminars, and conferences.

“We understand many of our member institutions are facing increased financial pressure,” said ACUI Chief Executive Officer John Taylor. “This fund will provide campus community builders the support needed to receive professional development and network with leaders to ensure student success.”

Any donations made to the Education and Research Fund, unless otherwise specifically designated, will go to the Financial Assistance Fund through December 2021 in an effort to sustain campus community for the next 100 years. The fund goal is $50,000, and to show their support for the future of the profession and the Association, ACUI’s past presidents have already donated more than $5,000. Those interested in making a donation may do so online.

To be eligible for funds, an individual must be at a current member institution and experiencing professional development budget restrictions due to the pandemic. Funds are available to both professionals and students. Those who desire assistance can complete an online form. Grant decisions will typically be made in one week.
