The George Harrison Fund for UNICEF and ACUI Campus Challenge:
To raise funds toward its mission of saving children’s lives worldwide, the U.S. Fund for UNICEF partnered with ACUI and the George Harrison Fund for UNICEF for a fundraising challenge on campuses starting in 2008. To date, more than $842,000 has been raised through this challenge.
We are pleased to announce that the partnership will continue for a fourth year with a challenge running from Aug. 1, 2011 to April 1, 2012, as college students and student affairs professionals continue to show their interest in becoming effective and aware global citizens.
College students have a powerful role to play in helping the world's children survive. The Campus Challenge is a rapidly growing grassroots movement of dynamic students who champion UNICEF's lifesaving work.
Results from 2012:
During the 2011–12 program, 281 campuses
raised more than $172,567 and with an $150,000 match from the George

To get involved:
Every day, 21,000 children die—and they don’t have to. They die from causes most people in the U.S. rarely worry about. Malnutrition. Unsafe drinking water. Lack of a five-cent vaccine. With your help, UNICEF and its partners WILL reach a day when no child dies from a preventable cause.
Engage your campus community in global citizenship.
Additional UNICEF Campaigns and Resources
New resource guide
Reflecting the role of the college union and student activities in educating student for citizenship, the Engaging Global Citizens outside the Classroom resource guide was produced in partnership between ACUI and the U.S. Fund for UNICEF in October 2011 as a collection of information that can be used to promote global knowledge, competence, and community on campus. With overviews of theories, resources, and how-to guides, learn more about ways to engage and advise students with global interests.

About "Help Us Save Some Lives!"
With the lyrics "Now I'm asking all of you, help us save some lives," George Harrison turned music into a political and social force. In 1971, Harrison staged two concerts at New York's Madison Square Garden that brought together a star-studded cast of musicians to alert the world to the plight of the Bangladeshi people, whose country was ravaged by floods, famine, and civil war, which forced 10 million people—mostly women and children—to flee their homes.
Celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2011, the Concert for Bangladesh was one of the most ambitious humanitarian efforts in music history. It produced an extraordinary contribution for UNICEF, eventually exceeding $15 million and truly showed the power of just one individual to make a difference.
The “Help Us Save Some Lives” Campus Challenge encourages college students to raise awareness and funds for the UNICEF cause. In 2011, UNICEF announced that the number of children who die every day from preventable causes reached 21,000. This happens because they lack simple things like access to clean drinking water, basic childhood medical attention, or mosquito bed nets to prevent malaria.
UNICEF’s goal is simple: The number of children who die from preventable causes should be zero.
