Artists Insurance

Hey everyone:

Do your college campuses require you to ask artists to get insurance?  We have had a few issues arise in the past, none related specifically to artists, but our institution is trying to make a blanket policy that all outsiders must have insurance. It makes sense for production companies, vendors, etc... but if we are the host inviting the artist, should they be required to have insurance? Speaking to people in the industry, most all artists do not carry insurance.

Any suggestions or thoughts would be great.

Where ever I have been we have always required a minimum of  $1,000,000.00 in liability insurance. In most instances we want to be named as an additional insured (sometimes that is negotiable.) We now require proof of vehicle insurance when a group will be bringing a vehicle(s) on campus. I must have proof of both before they arrive. I have found many of the smaller groups don't carry this and we have to work with them and on some occasion we will waive it.  It does not make sense to me why all groups don't carry insurance. It is for their own protection. I hope this is helpful.
