We have some students interested in starting a student organization to practice portfolio management. They will have money donated to a fund and they will practice investing it, compiling sums to provide scholarships. The student that spoke with me referenced similar organizations at other universities. If your institution has a similar student organization can you share what systems were put in place to limit institutional liability. Also, what safeguards would be recommended to be put into place to reduce opportunity for misappropriation?
Hi Jeremy,
Here at the University of Dayton we have the Davis Center for Portfolio Management under our School of Business. I've included the link: http://www.udayton.edu/business/daviscenter/
They have a conference this spring for all students/universities that have portofolio management groups. If you go to the page -on the right side- click on the R.I.S.E. Forum. They have speakers from Wall Street and have had Ministers of Finance from actual countries. In fact, they had Ben Bernanke as the keynote speaker a year or two before he became Chairman of the Fed.
