Good Day!
We are working on our department Student Staff training and reworking it so that it is not just two trainings (August & January) but now 5 meetings (added October, March, April/May). I'm looking at incorporating the Wellness Wheel into our training this year as a guide for our presentations and our activities. Instead of the normal 6 areas in the wellness wheel, our division has adapted it and now have a wheel with 8 areas (I've attached it to this message). My question is, does anyone have any creative ideas for activities for a student staff of about 80? Or creative ways to present FERPA, Risk Management, Diversity, etc?
I'm looking forward to this upcoming year, but I know that there is so much more we can do with our student employment aspect of our department.
Thanks for your help,
Lincoln
Lincoln,
At previous institutions some graduate students made a 2-3 minute video on risk management and crisis. They made it fun and engaging because each character was from The Office. Also, my former supervisor, Brent Delong at Boise State, made a comic book training manual. The simple cartoons really resonated with students.
For diversity, the program board I advise lets each board member select an advocacy group that they need to be a voice for. Then they attend a couple meetings of the student org, and present to group during meetings about their needs or history. Then throughout the year, the students advocate on their behalf in meetings. For example, a student who is learning more about the Muslim Student Population will request that if there's food during Ramadan that is Hahal.
Hopefully that helps.
