At Oregon State University’s Memorial Union, my position is Marketing and Assessment but I also have responsibility for art programs housed in the union. Much of my time on the Marketing side is filled with advising student groups and programs on how to market events on campus and helping them create materials for their marketing needs. The groups themselves are responsible for paying for their marketing materials. I also create and implement the marketing plan for the union (including web) and collect and the information/produce the reports that are required of the union (annual report to the Vice Provost and a separate report to the student fee committee that provides about half our funding). I work closely with university’s marketing department so that our department’s messaging is in line with the university’s overall marketing campaigns. That also means that I end up being the “logo police” for departments housed within union and am the brand manager for us.
Talking to other student union marketers, there is a very wide spectrum of what this job entails, this is just how ours has developed of the years.

At this time the Rhatigan Student Center does not have a full time marketing position. For the most part, each department within the RSC has responsibility for marketing its services. We are looking at a marketing position for the future. That position will have overall responsibility for marketing the union as a whole and coordinating marketing efforts among the various departments.

Kent, is it possible for you to send me a job description? My email is suhoontan@unr.edu.
Thanks!
I am one of the Assistant Directors for the K-State Student Union and I oversee our Marketing Department. My job includes marketing our facilities, coordinating with our contract services and their marketing staff, working with our programming staff to promote their events, working with our campus Division of Communications and Marketing, and long range planning. I am also in charge of public relations and perform those duties by representing our Union on community and campus committees and at official functions. I was recently given our development program and work with our university foundation office to promote our donor program.
I report to our Union Director.
Thanks.
