ACUI completed the second year of its partnership with the National Academic Quiz Tournament. The NAQT Intercollegiate Championship Tournament (ICT) was held April 8–9 in Chicago, and 64 teams competed. Harvard University became the first team to ever successfully defend the ICT Division I overall title by knocking off the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities in the championship game. Harvard also secured the undergraduate title and was the first team to repeat as champions as well as the first team composed entirely of undergraduates to win the overall title. Brown University finished third.
Division II is set up for less experienced teams of undergraduate students. Of the 32 teams in the division, Yale University defeated the University of Chicago to win the intercollegiate title. Massachusetts Institute of Technology took third place.
Chipola College placed 10th overall in the ICT, making it the top community college. Montgomery College took second place in the community college division with Valencia Community College finishing third.
Overall, ACUI/NAQT Quiz Bowl held 16 successful Sectional Championship Tournaments (SCT) in February. The following ACUI regions hosted or cohosted a sectional tournament: Regions 2, 4, 5, 8, 11, 13, and 14. Fourteen sectional tournaments took place in the United States, one in Canada, and one in the United Kingdom. Collectively in these tournaments, 778 students competed on 206 teams from 122 schools, 88 of which were ACUI member institutions.
Schools’ quiz bowl seasons usually start with an on-campus intramural tournament; this is an event for clubs, fraternities, residence hall floors, and other groups that can also help identify players who will represent the institution at that year’s sectionals. For the upcoming academic year, NAQT’s intramural questions will be available Sept.1. Purchase questions soon, as ACUI members receive a discount.
