Theme announced for 2006 Community Building Poster Contest
September 1, 2005

BLOOMINGTON, IND. — In line with ACUI’s efforts as part of the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005–2014), the Association has chosen "sustainability" as its 2006 Building Community Poster Contest theme.

The Association defines sustainability as encompassing more than "green" issues; it is a broad concept that includes civility, tolerance, diversity, environmental protection, responsible energy use, and many other areas. Along with sister associations in the Higher Education Sector, ACUI is framing its programs and services in terms of sustainability and will strive to help members do the same.

To continue to build and preserve our global community, ACUI believes sustainability must be a focus for each individual. The Association hopes poster contest participants will visually promote the many aspects of sustainability beyond its commonly narrow definition. Poster entries will be judged on:

  • Overall impact of the display for eye-catching appeal and visual attractiveness.
  • Clarity and conveyance of "sustainability" theme and the poster’s ability to stand alone, without explanatory text.
  • Creativity and originality.

The winning poster can then be reprinted and used at higher education institutions worldwide to help others understand the meaning and importance of sustainability.

For more information about the poster contest, visit www.acui.org. Entries must be postmarked by April 3, 2006. Entries must have been produced for the ACUI Building Community Poster Contest. If you have any questions, please contact Andrea Langeveld at alangeve@indiana.edu
